There was something wrong with the shower door, which was a struggled to open and close, and the shower faucet, which was too loose, kept slipping from the position we'd set it, causing too-hot water to suddenly rain down in the middle of a shower. The bathroom was so small that my 6-foot tall husband had to step into the shower just to shut the door to the toilet. The carpet was stained, the shower was shockingly moldy (see photo), everything was dusty or damaged. The room itself feels shabby, with mismatched antique-style furniture. There are "quiet hours," which people respected, but it still meant being woken by a screaming toddler in the early morning and being kept up by drunk, loud, partying guests until 10 PM. Worse, guests hang out in the atrium day and night. Even opening the shutters let in very little light, as the atrium itself is quite dim. The only (small) window in our "atrium view" room faced the atrium, which meant we needed to keep the shutters closed for privacy. The hotel is like a rectangular donut with the atrium being the donut hole. But the room was such a disappointment! Every room seems to have a window into the atrium. The front-desk staff were friendly and helpful. I appreciated the self-parking, versus valet, and the pretty little atrium in the middle of the building. There was some good here: the location can't be beat, walking distance from anywhere you want to go in Charleston. But I expected better at this price point.

taxes and fees) for two nights here in the off season. This would be a different review if we hadn't paid $1000 (incl. I encourage anyone to use this fabulous place. if Location is everything, this place has it. Even Target for any missing things was just a short walk away. Restaurants, shopping, tourist sites, were all a short walk. We walked to and loved the market of local vendors. We walked to the boat launch for our harbor ghost story evening tour and our tour of Fort Sumpter. As if all of this was not enough, the location cannot be beat. I asked a maid for an extra towel and it appeared within a minute. The maids were incredibly kind and did great room servicing. When we wanted to check out and see the town before we left, they held our luggage. We left a charger home and they helped us with one for our stay. The best surprise, cookies and milk at the end of the day. With a lovely water feature giving the sound of falling water, the beautiful trees and foliage make you relax. The building is a rectangle around a beautiful courtyard. Bagels, toast, english muffins with butter and jelly, pastries, and fruit muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, cereals, oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, OJ, V8, apple juice, and milk were more than enough to satisfy my family. While the bathroom was small, it was very clean, the towels were fresh and soft, and the closet and drawer storage ample. But the comfortable beds, that were high enough to store the suitcases underneath, made it more roomy. The room was a bit cramped as we had 2 beds for my wife and I and our two teens. It was the perfect way to relax and start a nice trip. I enjoyed some crackers, pickled okra, grapes, and a white wine. They had a lovely food spread of fruits, cheeses, wine and beer.

This place is FIRST CLASS! I arrived to a very kind greeting and was welcomed to a surprise of free wine and cheese for guests. One of my best all-time hotel experiences. We left a charger home and they helped us with one for.
